Ziheng Yang is the RA Fisher Professor of Statistical Genetics in University College London. He received his PhD in Beijing Agricultural University in 1992 (with Professor Changhsin Wu). He held a few postdoctoral positions in the UK and US before joining UCL in 1997. He develops statistical methods and computer software in molecular phylogenetics, population genetics and comparative genomics. He maintains two software packages called PAML and BPP. He has written two graduate-level textbooks, published by Oxford University Press in 2006 and 2014. He won a few awards including the Presidents' Award for Lifetime Achievement from the Society for Systematic Biologists (2008). He was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 2006.
