To promote international academic exchange and cooperation in the research field of animal health and inheritance of disease resistance and enhance the health status and production quality of livestock, 2018 International Symposium on Animal Health & Inheritance of Disease Resistance (AHIDR2018) hosted by China Agricultural University and Society of Animal Genetics and Breeding, Chinese Association of Animal Science and Veterinary Medicine will be held at Beijing, China from August 3rd to August 5th, 2018. The conference invites 12 eminent experts as well as part of young and middle-aged academic elites in animal health and inheritance of disease resistance to share and communicate the latest research progress on this field. The conference set up the poster display area and provide space for the participants to communicate deeply. Persons of interest are welcome to sign up for the conference. Three main topics in AHIDR2018 1. The health status and main issues of major domestic animals, including (but not limited to) poultry Marek’s disease, porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome, bovine mastitis, etc. 2. Advances in genetic mechanisms and epigenetic mechanisms as well as important molecular markers for disease resistance of the major domestic animals. 3. Current situation and developmental trends of disease resistance breeding for the major domestic animals. Meeting Date & Venue Date: August 3-5, 2018 Venue: Conference Room (3rd floor), Jinma Hotel, No. 38 Xueqing Road, Haidian District, Beijing, P. R. China
Invited Speakers
Program in AHIDR2018 The format of the presentation should be 4:3
Biography of the Invited Speakers Dr. Hans Cheng: Dr. Cheng is a research geneticist at the USDA, ARS, Avian Disease and Oncology Laboratory where his group uses genomic approaches to identify and characterize genes of agricultural importance in chicken, especially with regard to resistance to Marek’s disease. Dr. Cheng is the USDA Poultry Genome Co-coordination and lead efforts on chicken genetic mapping and the genome assembly. Dr. Lusheng Huang: Dr. Huang is a Chinese animal geneticist and professor of Jiangxi Agricultural University, Academician of Chinese Academic of Science, Director of Chinese Association of Animal Science and Veterinary Medicine, corresponding member of the Göttingen Academy of Sciences and Humanities, Alexander von Humboldt research Fellowship, Chinese National Outstanding Specialist, Director of National Key Laboratory of Genetic Improvement and Breeding Technology of Pig and he also was awarded the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars by the National Science Foundation of China (NSFC). He has achieved systematic innovations in genetic dissection and molecular genetic breeding of important economic and disease resistance traits in pigs. Dr. Simon Lillico: Dr. Lillico is professor of the Roslin Institute, University of Edinburgh, and Chief Editor of Transgenic Research. He focuses on chickens, sheep and pigs, using lentiviruses to introduce transgenes to model human disease states. He now uses genomic editing to either create disease resilient livestock strains, or to generates more accurate models of human disease. Dr. Jiang Liu: Dr. Liu is a principal investigator in Beijing Institute of Genomics, and CAS and was awarded the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars by the NSFC. His research is focus on the inheritance and programming of epigenetic information. He is the first one to reveal the entire epigenomic map that can be transferred to the next generation through gamete. His group is also the first group finding the molecular mechanism of the zygotic genome activation in human embryos. Dr. Joan Lunney: Dr. Lunney is a Supervisory Research Scientist in USDA and an internationally recognized authority on pig immunology and genomics. Her current research focuses on swine immunology, genomics, and resistance to diseases, particularly to porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome (PRRS). Dr. David MacHugh: Prof. MacHugh is currently the Associate Dean for Research, Innovation and Impact at the UCD School of Agriculture and Food Science, University College Dublin, Ireland. His research program is focused on functional genomics of host-pathogen interactions for Mycobacterium bovis infection and development of novel disease biomarkers for bovine tuberculosis. Dr. Jiuzhou Song: Prof. Song is professor of the Department of Animal and Avian sciences at the University of Maryland. Now his main work is epigenetics and statistical genetics related to animal health and livestock production, especially on systems biology, epigenetics and regulatory domain analysis. Dr. Ning Yang: Prof. Yang is the head of Department of Animal Genetics and Breeding at China Agricultural University, President of the World Poultry Science Association, Chief Scientist for the National System for Layer Production Technology, Director of National Engineering Laboratory for Animal Breeding, President of Society of Animal Genetics and Breeding, Chinese Association of Animal Science and Veterinary Medicine, Director of Poultry Genetic Resources Committee, and was awarded the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars by the NSFC. He has focused on genetic breeding of economic and disease-resistance traits in poultry and achieved systematic innovations in both poultry industrial technology and breeding of new layer breeds. Dr. Huangmin Zhang: Dr. Zhang is a senior research scientist working for Agriculture Research Service at the Avian Disease and Oncology Laboratory (ADOL), USDA. While maintaining and enriching a unique genetic resource of highly inbred lines of chickens at ADOL, Dr. Zhang’s research program primarily focuses on the advancement of fundamental understanding on genetic and epigenetic mechanisms that confer resistance to tumor virus-induced diseases and vaccine protective efficacy against virus-induced tumorigenesis in poultry. Dr. Shuhong Zhao: Dr. Zhao serves as a Senior Professor in Animal Science in Huazhong Agricultural University. She is also an adjunct professor in Murdoch University, Tang Scholar of Cornell University (the United States), Director of National Livestock Engineering Technology Research Center and Key Lab of Agricultural Animal Genetics, Breeding, and Reproduction of Ministry of Education, and was awarded The National Science Foundation for Distinguished Young Scholars by the NSFC. Dr. Zhao’s group has conducted pioneering work in porcine functional genomics tool development, genomic editing and molecular markers for porcine disease resistance. Dr. Xin Zhao: Dr. Zhao is a James McGill Professor at the Department of Animal Science of McGill University, Canada. Zhao’s primary research interests pertain to the interaction between pathogens and hosts in cows and poultry. He is an active member of several professional societies and currently serves on several committees (e.g. DairyGen of Canadian Dairy Network), as well as on the Editorial Boards of several journals (Frontiers in Immunology, Frontiers in Nutrition, etc.). Dr. Yaofeng Zhao: Dr. Zhao has been working as a professor majoring in Animal Genetics at China Agricultural University. He was awarded the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars by the NSFC. He mainly focuses on genetic evolution of vertebrate immune system and immunogenetics of domestic animals. It is the first time that he found that the expression of IgD in domestic animals has special expression mechanism.
