报告人简介:
Prof. Zhiquan Wang’s research emphasis is mainly focusing on the development of theories and methodologies that can be used to apply genomic research innovations and outcomes to the genetic improvement of economically relevant traits in livestock species, I strive for excellence in research in areas including the following: 1) understanding the fundamental associations and mechanisms between genomic and phenotypic variations of economically important traits and disease resistance in livestock species, by using quantitative/statistical approaches; 2) understanding and predicting feed efficiency in cattle; and 3) applying these knowledge to develop methods for industry applications.
Prof. Cathy Ernst’s research program focuses on identification and evaluation of genes and genetic markers associated with genetic improvement of production traits in pigs and other meat animal species. Much of her research is at the interface of structural and functional genomics, and she leads a collaborative effort in genetical genomics to integrate genetic marker and gene expression data to identify genes controlling skeletal muscle and fat deposition, and their relationship to growth, carcass merit and meat quality in pigs. This effort applies both RNAseq and miRNAseq approaches in order to reveal gene regulatory networks and pathways.
Brian Sullivan MSc. Agr is the Chief Executive Officer of the Canadian Centre for Swine Improvement (CCSI) in Ottawa. He has been a geneticist working on the national swine improvement program since 1991 and General Manager at CCSI from 2003 to 2011. He completed his Masters degree in animal breeding and genetics at the University of Guelph in 1988. Brian oversees a team of geneticists and computer specialists at CCSI. The centre’s mission is to help the Canadian pork industry with genetic improvement. The two main areas of activity are the Canadian Swine Improvement Program and applied research to keep Canada at the leading edge of genetic improvement technology.
Dr. Chunyan Zhang currently is a research associate in University of Alberta. Chunyan`s main research interests focus on utilizing the molecular biology, quantitative genetics and genomics to improve the economically important traits in livestocks. Up to date, she has published about 27 scientific papers and contributed many presentations in national or international conferences. In recent years, Chunyan has been involved in several pig projects with high interest on genetically improving meat quality, carcass yield, feed efficiency and fertility traits in pig by integrating the high density SNP panels (60K, 80K & 650K) and whole genome sequence data. Chunyan also has quite a lot collaborative experience with Canadian pig breeding companies and some Chinese Universities/institutes. |
